Amazon Alexa, also known simply as\u00a0Alexa , is a\u00a0virtual assistant\u00a0technology<\/p>\n
largely based on a Polish speech synthesiser named Ivona, bought by\u00a0Amazon\u00a0in 2013.<\/p>\n
It was first used in the\u00a0Amazon Echo\u00a0smart speaker\u00a0and the\u00a0Echo Dot,<\/p>\n
Echo Studio and\u00a0Amazon Tap\u00a0speakers developed by\u00a0Amazon Lab126.<\/p>\n
It is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists,<\/p>\n
setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks,<\/p>\n
and providing weather, traffic, sports, and other real-time information, such as news.<\/p>\n
Alexa can also control several\u00a0smart devices\u00a0using itself as a\u00a0home automation\u00a0system.<\/p>\n
Alexa was developed out of a predecessor named Ivona which was invented in Poland,<\/p>\n
inspired by\u00a02001: A Space Odyssey\u00a0<\/span>and bought by Amazon in 2013.<\/p>\n In November 2014, Amazon announced Alexa alongside the Echo.<\/p>\n <\/sup>Alexa was inspired by the\u00a0computer voice\u00a0and\u00a0conversational system\u00a0on board<\/p>\n the\u00a0Starship\u00a0Enterprise\u00a0in science fiction TV series and movies,<\/p>\n beginning with Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation.<\/p>\n As of April 2019, Amazon had over 90,000 functions (“skills”) available for users to download on their Alexa-enabled devices.<\/p>\n <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Alexa\u00a0Echo Show 5<\/strong><\/h4>\n
